This collaboration brings together two paths that have been evolving alongside each other for years. El Yaqui, the Sonoran hot dog project by Orlando Parra, grew from time spent in and around Hecate, shaped by shared kitchens, long nights, and a mutual approach to craft. What began as parallel work now meets in a single offering.
Its name draws from the Yaqui people of Sonora, an Indigenous community with a history marked by resilience, ritual, and a deep connection to land and tradition. Their stories, carried across generations, have at times been retold, reinterpreted, and mythologized, most notably through the writings of Carlos Castaneda in the 20th century. Fact and fiction remain intertwined, but the influence lingers.
At Hecate, we’ve always been drawn to narratives like these. Ones that exist between history and folklore, where meaning reveals itself slowly. As a counterpart, we created a margarita to go built on Bacanora, a regional agave spirit once produced in secrecy in Sonora, layered here with yellow bell pepper and chiltipín. Earthy, bright, vegetal, with a quiet heat.
This collaboration is less about introduction and more about continuation. A shared language of culture, craft, and curiosity, told together for a brief moment in time.
